Welcome to the Modepilot Team, Isa!

My mother once told me that the minute I was born she felt like screaming to let the entire world know that I had come into the world. We share similar feelings for the arrival of Isa, the new member in the Modepilot cockpit. Barbara and I want to let the world know that Isa has joined Modepilot and we couldn’t be happier!

We first met our young darling (born in 1988) Isabelle Braun a.k.a. Isa three years ago. We received her first email on December 24th 2011. At the time, she was working on her graduation project, an exhibition at the Düsseldorf NRW-Forum entitled “Frontrow Revolution – Modejournalismus 2.0”. We had received numerous emails from fashion journalism students wishing to interview us as fashion blog pioneers for Germany. We went through many of those requests and profiles but Isa’s project really stood out; her concepts were so well thought through and so impeccably executed.
Right from the start Isa impressed us with her letter of interest and professionalism and so I decided to drive to Düsseldorf to take part in the podium discussion “Blogs – Smoke and noise or Olympic flame?” with journalist Adriano Sack, whom I esteem greatly (founder of I like my style and Welt-Autor) and Alfons Kaiser (Editor-in-Chief for newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Germany and Frankfurter Allgemeine International). Isa and fellow student Lena Grossmüller not only lured the three of us to Düsseldorf, but also generated a stimulating discussion within the scope of a graduation project that their (and my) school, the Akademie für Mode und Design Düsseldorf had not seen before: an exhibition at the NRW Forum, with participants like designer Azzedine Alaïa. The two of them had won (while still studying!) the Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf Designer for Tomorrow award. Respect!

On February 4th 2012 in Düsseldorf, I knew that in Isa we had found a talented, very promising partner for our business, something that I also shared with her proud father. I was determined to get her a job, ideally working with me directly. Four months later I got a position as Fashion & Beauty chief editor for the Burda online platforms (Elle.de, Instyle.de, Burdastyle.de and Freundin.de). Isa and I exchanged a couple of emails and on November 2nd 2012, she finally started working with us as online editor. Shared experiences like attending Fashion Weeks, late night shifts, wracking our brains together and brainstorming ideas for projects brought us close. In the meantime, Isa also got to know Barbara and the mutual appreciation was instant. Barbara saw great potential in Isa for a haute couture critic role for Elle.de and soon after they found themselves shaking hands on it. Barbara raved about Isa: “This is the kind of collaborator we need at Modepilot”. She had no idea it was the same young lady from the graduation project request.

Last August, when Isa and I were not colleagues yet, but friends, Isa asserted that since her studies she had dreamed of joining our team at Modepilot. You can imagine how this announcement made Barbara and me feel that day…for us it was suddenly Christmas, New Year’s and the jack pot, all in one day! We still can’t believe how lucky we are to have Isa on board and that’ why we wish to share the news with all of you.

Besides Isa’s qualities, which are many and probably already evident through her work, the three of us in many ways are the same as much as different. Most importantly, what we have in common is a rare blessing: we fit.
